All seasoned motorcyclists are aware that riding on the back of a bike carries some risk. Long, open highways in New Mexico are ideal for motorcycles, but these areas are the setting of many serious motorcycle crashes. According to statistics, 303 riders were killed in motorcycle accidents in New Mexico in 2019, and other vehicles were involved in more than half of these collisions. When you examine the statistics, you notice a troubling pattern. Motorcycles were involved in about 2.3 percent of reported collisions and 14.2 percent of fatal fatalities. Riders and their families need to be prepared if they are suddenly involved in a serious collision on the state’s roadways.
When you take to the open road on a motorcycle, there is no other feeling quite like it. Unfortunately, riders are greatly exposed to the dangers of the road. There is a high number of fatal motorcycle crashes reported each year across the United States. Despite what many may believe, the majority of motorcycle accidents are caused by the drivers of other vehicles. Many motorists fail to look out for riders as they should, and the size discrepancy is one key factor. When a rider is hit by the weight of a passenger car, there is little protection, even if they wear all the recommended safety equipment and gear.
Motorcyclists have rights just like anyone else who uses the road in New Mexico. Riders need to make sure they are equipped to pursue a strong claim for the protection of their rights.
