Riding a motorcycle is a feeling like no other, but it comes with serious risks. According to a study conducted by the University of New Mexico (UNM), nearly 2.3 percent of reported collisions in the state involve a motorcycle. However, these vehicles are involved a staggering 14.2 percent of fatal car crashes. There were 38 motorcycle fatalities reported across New Mexico in 2020. This figure made up 13 percent of roadway deaths that year. The state also has a higher motorcycle fatality rate than the national average at 14.29 motorcycle deaths per 100,000 people.
Hitting the open road on the back of a bike is a great feeling, but you need to be ready to protect your rights if you are an avid motorcycle rider. Any rider knows of the devastation that can be caused by a motorbike crash, and riders are at risk of suffering life-threatening injuries. Motorcycles can hit extremely high speeds, and fast braking risks ejecting the passenger and causing life-changing injuries. Our lawyers understand because we ride as well. We want to make sure that fellow motorcyclists are able to protect themselves in the event of a catastrophic motorcycle crash.
Despite what many people think, drivers of passenger cars are often at fault for motorcycle accidents. Drivers fail to look out for riders as they should, and this is largely due to the significant size discrepancy between these vehicles.
