You are never completely protected when you ride on a motorcycle. Statistics in New Mexico show that almost 2.3 percent of all reported collisions and 14.2 percent of traffic fatalities involved motorcyclists. The state had a motorcycle fatality rate of 14.29 per every 100,000 people in 2015. This is considerably higher than the national average of 10.92. There were 38 motorcycle deaths reported in the Land of Enchantment in 2015, and this made up roughly 13 percent of deaths that year.
When you get on a motorcycle, there is no other feeling in the world that can really compare. You can reach fast speeds in a matter of seconds, but there is little protecting you from the full force of a serious impact. That is why many riders wear helmets and take other protective measures when they get on their bikes. Unfortunately, this is often not enough to completely protect motorcyclists in the event of a serious auto accident.
Despite what many people think, motorcyclists are usually not responsible for crashes. Many drivers do not give riders the attention they need to maintain a safe roadway for everyone, and motorcycles are much harder to see than large passenger cars. This can result in life-changing motorcycle crashes on New Mexico roadways. A reckless driver should be held responsible if their actions contributed to life-changing injuries in a motorcycle collision. That is where we can help.
