New Mexico Truck Accidents
Each year, over 43,000 car accidents occur in the state of New Mexico. Approximately 3% of these collisions involve semi-trucks. There are several factors that can contribute to a truck crash in New Mexico. Some of the leading reasons these accidents occur include:
- Driver Fatigue: Driver fatigue is a common issue among truckers who are usually stuck on the road for prolonged periods. This can cause them to make mistakes or even fall asleep at the wheel.
- Distracted Driving: Distracted driving is another leading type of negligence displayed amongst truck drivers in New Mexico. Truck drivers may become distracted by their GPS devices, cell phones, or even other people in the cab.
- Inclement Weather: Poor weather conditions can make it more difficult for truckers to see the road ahead and can also decrease their ability to stop their vehicles in sudden dangerous situations.
- Equipment Failure: Equipment failure is another common reason truck crashes happen in the Land of Enchantment. This can include problems with the tires, brakes, or even the engine itself.
- Road Rage: Road rage is a severe problem on American highways and is usually the cause of serious truck crashes. Truck drivers may become extremely angry if they feel that another driver has passed them too closely or cut them off.
Driver negligence is one of the most common reasons traffic crashes take place in the United States today. In fact, the National Highway Traffic Safety Association recently found that more than 94% of traffic accidents that occur throughout the country are caused by the reckless, careless, or otherwise negligent actions of negligent drivers.
